A Bridal Shower

Just last week I flew back home to Chicago for a bridal shower honoring my dear and lovely sister, who is getting married in the fall. My mother, sister-in-law, and I planned a travel-themed get-together with, of course, a menu to match. I happily spent the day before the shower shopping for groceries, prepping, and cooking with a trained chef and mentor (also known as my brother– an affinity for food obviously runs in the family!)  My trip was only a few short days, but I was glad just to get away for a little bit and spend some much-needed time with family.

Despite running around in a frenzy on the day of the party, I managed to take a few quick shots of our spread before it was polished off!

Charcuterie and Cheese Plate

Filipino Empanadas (turnovers stuffed with ground beef and vegetables)

Vietnamese Noodle Salad layered with greens, bun rice noodles, and a vegetable and tofu stir-fry, served with a nước chấm dressing

Grilled Shrimp with Mango Salsa

Pineapple Fried Rice with Chinese sausage and chicken

White Sangria (seen here on the table beautifully decorated by my sister-in-law)

English Trifles with homemade poundcake, custard, and fresh berries

…and an American treat: Red Velvet Mini Cupcakes
